What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are the only permanent form of tooth replacement that includes a fully functional root and crown. Instead of replacing only the visible portions of teeth, these customized titanium posts are embedded into the jawbone to establish a solid foundation of support for your new crown or bridge.
The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

- Initial Consultation: At Woodhill Family Dental, our dentists will meet with you during an initial consultation to go over your oral and overall health to determine if dental implants would be a good fit for you.
- Dental Implant Surgery: We will refer you to a local oral surgeon who will ensure the proper placement of each titanium post.
- Osseointegration/Abutments: After your dental implant surgery is finished, you will return home to begin the recovery process. This includes allowing osseointegration to occur, which is the fusing of your implants with your jawbone. Once this is complete, you will receive metal abutments, which will be placed on top of each post to connect to your restorations.
- Delivery of Final Restoration: Your final, custom-made restoration, which will be a crown or bridge, will be secured on top of your dental implants by one of our dentists.
Benefits of Dental Implants

When comparing the benefits of dental implants to those of dentures or dental bridges, you’ll quickly find that one far outweighs the others. With dental implants, you not only enjoy a stronger bite force that allows you to eat the foods you love, but they also proactively prevent the bone loss that usually follows tooth loss. These prosthetics don’t take up as much room in the mouth as traditional dentures, allowing for clearer speech, plus they are able to last for decades. Over time, implants tend to cost less than regular prosthetics because they don’t require as much maintenance or replacement.
